The Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) is a US Government agency with the goal of delivering accurate, non-partisan news to places in the world without a free and independent press.
BBG has a number of applications, all serving different countries with limited access to news-related media, mostly due to government restrictions. They also provide more language services than any broadcasting company in the world.
BBG refers to their suite of applications colloquially as the Umbrella. All of the apps are powered by a custom CMS and include such familiar names as Voice of America, Radio Free Europe, Radio Free Asia, Alhurra, Radio SAWA, and Marti Noticias. Apollo Matrix is performing ongoing work in the areas of accessibility and app performance.
In some countries, 1MB of data can cost upwards of $18. With this in mind, Apollo designers keep performance at the center of the process, maintaining an emphasis on accessibility. Making sure the BBG apps are affordable to users by keeping them streamlined is essential to the success of the applications and the service. Currently, data and user feedback is being collected on version 3.1 of the Umbrella apps, with the goal of outlining and implementing improvements for 3.2.
All BBG apps can be downloaded from the Apple, Google Play, Binu and Amazon App Store, with versions available for phone and tablet.
